چکیده

The staggered discontinuous Galerkin (SDG) method has been recently developed for the numerical approximation of partial differential equations. An important advantage of such methodology is that the numerical solution automatically satisfies some conservation properties which are also satisfied by the exact solution. In this paper, we will consider the numerical approximation of the inviscid Burgers equation by the SDG method. For smooth solutions, we prove that our SDG method has the properties of mass and energy conservation. It is well-known that extra care has to be taken at locations of shocks and discontinuities. In this respect, we propose a local total variation (TV) regularization technique to suppress the oscillations in the numerical solution. This TV regularization is only performed locally where oscillation is detected, and is thus very efficient. Therefore, the resulting scheme will preserve the mass and energy away from the shocks and the numerical solution is regularized locally near shocks. Detailed description of the method and numerical results are presented. AMS subject classifications: 65M10, 78A48

Fractional Burgers equation with nonlinear non-locality: Spectral vanishing viscosity and local discontinuous Galerkin methods

We consider the viscous Burgers equation with a fractional nonlinear term as a model involving non-local nonlinearities in conservation laws, which, surprisingly, has an analytical solution obtained by a fractional extension of the Hopf-Cole transformation. We use this model and its inviscid limit to develop stable spectral and discontinuous Galerkin spectral element methods by employing the co...

Mixed Total Variation and L1 Regularization Method for Optical Tomography Based on Radiative Transfer Equation

Optical tomography is an emerging and important molecular imaging modality. The aim of optical tomography is to reconstruct optical properties of human tissues. In this paper, we focus on reconstructing the absorption coefficient based on the radiative transfer equation (RTE). It is an ill-posed parameter identification problem. Regularization methods have been broadly applied to reconstruct th...

Solution of two-dimensional time-fractional Burgers equation with high and low Reynolds numbers

Burgers’ equation frequently appears in the study of turbulence theory, as well as some other scientific fields. High and low Reynolds numbers play important roles in both modeling and numerical simulation. In this paper, we apply a numerical scheme to solve a two-dimensional time-fractional Burgers equation. The key feature of the proposed method is formed by combining the discontinuous Galerk...

A local discontinuous Galerkin method for the Burgers-Poisson equation

In this work, we design, analyze and test a local discontinuous Galerkin method for solving the Burgers–Poisson equation. This model, proposed by Whitham [Linear and Nonlinear Waves, John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1974] as a simplified model for shallow water waves, admits conservation of both momentum and energy as two invariants. The proposed numerical method is high order accurate and preserve...

Comparison of The LBM With the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson Method Solution of Transient Two-Dimensional Non-Linear Burgers Equation

Burgers equation is a simplified form of the Navier-Stokes equation that represents the non-linear features of it. In this paper, the transient two-dimensional non-linear Burgers equation is solved using the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM). The results are compared with the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson method (MLCN) and exact solutions. The LBM has been emerged as a new numerical method for sol...
